(Community business school listings) There’s Money to Improve Your Future: Obama Scholarships for Moms
No commentsBy Fred Jackson
Despite the hard times caused by the US economy right now, there are some bright spot ahead that you should look forward to. The government is encouraging women to go back to college by offering Obama scholarships for moms. Mothers of all types have an opportunity to get a quality education. This will no doubt benefit their families and future employers.
Obama scholarships are made possible by federal Pell Grants. To encourage more moms to go back to school, President Obama and the government made some changes to these grants. Now Pell Grants worth over $5,000 can be awarded. That makes these grants worth more than $1,000 over the previous maximum. Because these grants are meant to help low-income students, that means many single mothers are eligible. That’s why the government is encouraging moms to go back to school. Both moms who work and stay-at-home moms could benefit from having money to help them go to college.
For even more incentive, there are other benefits to encourage moms to go to college. Obviously many students choose to attend large colleges and universities. For many single mothers this isn’t an option, and it has prevented them from going to college. However, the Pell Grants will take this into account. Whether a working mom wants to attend college part-time or a stay-at-home mom wants to take online courses, these specially targeted grants make it possible. From nursing to business to education, it doesn’t matter what you want to study. Single moms have more opportunity, and that’s the important part.
For single moms who want to start on a different path, an Obama scholarship may be the answer. Applying for a scholarship involves a few simple steps. First, go online to fill out the FAFSA, the application for federal student aid. It’s a free application, and there is plenty of information to help you learn what’s available. Remember this: the American Opportunity Tax Credit program says the first $4,000 of your education is free. Consider this and the possibility of getting a grant when you’re weighing your options.
Working or stay-at-home single moms now have a great opportunity to continue their education in college. The objective of the government grants and free opportunities is to help moms take better care of their families and increase their earning potential as members of the workforce. The Obama scholarships help women have the chance to improve their family’s future as well as their own.

Obama Grants -Will They Encourage More Moms to Get a Degree
By Fred Jackson
Although higher education is important, often a number of obstacles can hinder potential students from enrolling in college. For single mothers especially, family obligations and financial concerns are often at the top of this list. Obama grants are intended to encourage mothers to return to college to earn a degree, in an attempt to ease some of the concerns associated with going to college.
In a number of cases, the purpose of federal grants is to help disadvantaged groups to attend college. One endowment often given to low-income students is the federal Pell grant. As the Obama administration has stated that it places a high priority on education, the benefits of Pell grants have been augmented in order to be a greater help to potential students. Working moms are especially encouraged to apply for the Scholarships for Moms program, which is just a title given to a portion of the standard Pell grant program. By equipping low-income mothers to earn a degree, the administration believes that this will provide a stimulus to the lagging economy, and be a great benefit to the families of those mothers, by increasing their earning power in the work force.
With the high cost of education these days, $5,000 from a Pell grant may not seem like a lot of money but consider the other expenses associated with going to college. As well as books and supplies, a student has additional expenses of housing and travel as well. For single moms, these miscellaneous expenses may also include childcare. One great advantage of the Pell grant award is that the money awarded does not necessarily have to be applied to college tuition. Any expense that can be seen to be necessary to obtaining an education, can be covered by the grant money.
It must be remembered that this program is not specifically catering to traditional students; it provides opportunity for traditional and non-traditional students alike. Mothers wanting to return to college to earn a degree are just as welcome as a student who is fresh out of high school. Consideration is given equally to mothers who would like to stay home and take care of their children while doing online courses, to potential students who would prefer to go to a small community college. The most important thing is that all willing students are able to earn a degree that will provide them with significant opportunity in the job market.
An effort by the current administration to show that education truly is the key to a bright future are Obama grants. Everyone from young adults to working mothers has a chance to go to college, with the allocation of a significant amount of money to pay for education.
